a staple at our house
i was so in love w/ the tomato basil hummus from trader joes but it was kinda pricey for a little container so i figured out how to do it myself:
1 can garbanzo beans, drain half the liquid
3 T tahini (ground sesame seed, found in the international food section of most grocery stores)
2 T lemon juice
1/2 t garlic powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 can stewed tomato
1/2 can tomato paste
5 big fresh basil leaves
pour all ingredients into a blender and puree.
pour into bowl and drizzle w/ olive oil
serve w/ pita chips or blue corn chips or any way you like

Ooooh yum! Thanks for the recipe; I am in love with hummus but Brent isn't so I can't ever justify buying it... But making it is a whole nother story!
I love your family picture! How are you guys doing?
